Update - mid June

Travelling with friends.

I stayed in Delhi with a friend's family. We ended up going out for dinners, shopping, badminton games and chats together. It was lovely. After this we headed to Bir.

Bir is a small town in Himachal Pradesh and it is famous for being a great spot for paragliding. People from all over the world have been coming here for decades to paraglide in the Himalayas.

There was an event happening in Bir, but honestly the bigger reason to visit was that my friends were also going to Bir. I was not on vacation the entire time; instead I worked on Mondays and Tuesdays and the rest of the week I was on PTO. I would have taken a vacation for the entire week, but I had to pair with my colleague before he went on vacation. That pairing helped me get unblocked on my project.

Bir was beautiful. A friend and I kept wondering if it would be a good place to live long-term. I think I have made up my mind. I want to go live in Bir.
It is a very small town with narrow roads and the greenery still intact. Tourism is still not as big in Bir as it is in Manali; so you get to see the town almost untarnished by tourist traps.
The town still has some touristy things here and there, just like any other place that caters to tourists; but unlike Manali, Bir doesn't seem to be drowning in this.

I did some paragliding in Bir. I also gave a short talk about the internet to a group of front-end trainees at the event. A friend suggested the topic, and the discussion turned out to be fun.

Outdoors

In no specific order:

  • Did paragliding twice in Tandem mode. I am 90% sure that I do want to get a license.
  • Hiked to a friend's house in Bir. This person lives in Bir and he was kind enough to show us his home. We took a very scenic route through the forest to his home. It was lovely.
  • Camped in Bir. A friend wanted to experience camping and so we decided that we would camp at one of those permanent camps. It was a decent experience; good enough as a starter experience.
