Day 9 / 15 : Samdo¶
date: 18/5
Today was the day of the hike to the Tibetian border. i didn't sleep well last night and when I woke up I was very disheartened tk see the dark cloudy skies. I mentally decided not to hike that day.
During breakfast I was hoping I'd change my mind. However I was ever so drowsy and really wanted to sleep.
So after dinner when the rest of the team was leaving... I curled up into the bed and took a long nap. I work up 2 hours later feeling refreshed.
Now it was time to read a good book. I went to the kitchen and ordered a cup of strong coffee. Fortunately they did not fuck this up. If was refreshing at 4000m.
I spent 4 hours reading and spent some more time looking up jobs I would be applying too.
I noticed a very important shift in my perspective during this trek. Somewhere on the trail I started to miss my day job. This is a new feeling. Ever since quitting my job, this is the first time I am feeling this way. I knew this would happen, but indidnt realize it would happen so soon.
More importantly, I think I figured out a limit for how much mountains I can handle at a stretch. I think the limit is a out 10 days. More than that, I start missing the city. Im not a person who can thru-hike for months on end. I used to think I was. This is new information and a welcome one. Knowing more about your self is always fun. I mean it's not that I can't thru-hike ever, but more like I need to ease into it and not just directly plan a 30 day trip.
Anyway. The afternoon sun was beautiful and I spent sometime soaking up the sun. I really wanted to have the apple pie at a local bakery here and i was also hungry for lunch, so I stepped out. Surprisingly I ran into Hassan who was coming into Samdo from Samagaun. He both headed for lunch at a different person hotel which made surprisingly good food.
Post lunch I spent more time reading.
The rest of the team arived.
