Day 6 / 15 : Shayla to Samagaun

Today was a fun and a disappointing day.
We started the day with a hike to the Pyun Gyen Gompa. The hike covered a distance of 6kms and we gained almost 500m of elevation.
The hike was very pretty, after the initial climb we crossed a large terminal moiraince (check terminology) and walked through some rolling meadows.

We had large 5000m+ peaks to our left and we could see Manaslu hidden behind clouds. This was the most disappointing thing about today as we did not get any clear view of maanaslu at all.

The Gompa was a beautiful place to visit. As we reached there and rested for a bit, it started to rain, so we quickly started our walk back. The walk back was long and boring rather. On the way back, Shyam being shyam walked ahead and took a different route back to Shayla. When we reached back we found Shyam already waiting ther for us. It took us 6 hours to go to the Gompa and return. We now had another 4 km to walk. Fortunately this was going to be an easy walk.

We quickly finished our lunch. I had egg thentuk which was delicious. On the way to Samagau we had to climb an initial 150 meters and then it was an easy walk on almost flat ground. We passed through meadows and came across a group of Yaks who were still nursing their newborns. The baby-yaks were so fast and kept running away from us whenever we approached them.

The village Samagau is very beautiful. Our hotel is at the end of the village and so we had to walk through most of the village to get to it. The houses were built using traditional style stone and wood construction, with a large courtyard and elevated rooms. A typical style seen in places that get snowfall.

We will be staying here for 2 days. The stay here is pretty comfortable. We have attached bathrooms here. The food here is a equally amazing. I had a cup of Manaslu coffee which is a local delicacy.

Tomorrow is going to be a brutal day. We climb 1300.m to the manaslu basecamp, a hike which typically takes 6 hours and come back. The weather is not making this easy. It's raining here and we can see snowfall in the upper slopes from now itself. We will be taking packed lunch tomorrow to have at the basecamp.

Our bags are packed and we are ready.
