Day 5 / 15 : Namrung to Shayla¶
date: 14 / 5
Today was a small day compared to the previous days. We were covering 14k and gaining about a 1000m in elevation. The pancake at the tea-house im Namrung ws great. We started the hike at 8 am which was slightly late than what we normally did.
The hike today took us through some beautiful meadows and farm lands. There was some crop already planted and it was beautiful to look at, especially with the wind blowing across the field.
Even though the distance today was less, we still had a lot of elevation to walk through. The terrain was rolling and in some places we had a series of brutal descends too. By the time we reached the lunch point, my toes were on fire.
I think this is because of the thicker socks that I'm wearing. I have switched them out for a pair on thinner socks. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
The lunch was extremely good. After lunch we had a 2 hour walk to reach the camp for the day at shayla. This trail took us through some dense forest section, it felt as if we were hiking in the western ghats. The trail was very easy and we always kept following the Budhi Gandaki River, though the volume of the water flowing was much less now.
Today's destination shayla is a very large village compared to Namrung. When we entered the village we were welcomed by 4 small kids playing with sand in a house that was still being built. We offered them chocolates and they were very pleased. After some rest, we went out to explore the monastery nearby and to our surprise we came across a full-fledged football game happening. We hung out for sometime near the monastery and made friends with the kids there. It was fun, with lots of laughter and smiles.
Were at 3500 MTRS. My nose is blocked. It has begun.
