Day 4 / 15 : Deng to Namrung¶
date: 13/5
Today we started at 7 after a very hearty breakfast. The trail today was through the forest and it was beautiful. The initial 8 kms were brutal with rolling hills. It took a lot of toll on our feet today. We are following the Budhi Gandaki river itself.
Now the once-thick river is more of a thick Nala that is rushing through the mountains.
The trail today passed through a lot of buddhist religious symbols (what are those wooden stupa like things called ?)
The sun was down till about 9 am. Post 9am it started to get really brutal. The sun was directly above our head and the heart today felt much stronger. We pushed on anyway and reached the lunch point at 12. We stopped at the first empty shop we could find.
The food here was delicious. I had tuna fried rice and a cup of cold lemon juice. Post lunch we had about 4 hours of hiking left. This was the most interesting part of the whole trail. We walked through a lot of abandoned villages and forests. Some places were quite steeep. At the lunch point I decided to put on my foam insoles. I had a modify one to suit the shape of my foot.
About 1.5 kms before Namrung we came across a store that was selling fresh apple-pie and other baked goods. They had a offer where you would get 3 pies for 1000 Nepali Rupees. Soon this shop had run out of Pies to sell. This was extremely delicious. After this reaching the final camp for the day was easy. There was not much heugh to gain.
We had dinner, chatted with the boys a bit and went to bed. Namrung is quite colder than the other place. Had to break out the windproof and the fleece.
There is WiFi and electricity
